Decorative acrylic sheets can create smooth feature surfaces for TV walls, bedroom backdrops and furniture-linked wall details. Choose them for a specific finish and layout, then specify the supporting surface and installation. They are different from profiled wall planks such as Altura MYST.
Where acrylic sheets work in a wall scheme
| Application | Design approach | Plan before fabrication |
|---|---|---|
| TV wall | Use a solid, marble-look or metallic finish as a defined backdrop. | Cable access, ventilation, bracket fixing and where joints meet the unit. |
| Bedroom backdrop | Coordinate the sheet with wood, fabric and warm lighting. | Bedside fittings, sockets, edges and reflected light. |
| Dressing area | Repeat a colour or finish from nearby cabinetry. | Vertical seams, mirror edges and hand-contact zones. |
| Living-room feature | Use one broad finish with quieter adjacent surfaces. | Sheet layout, visual balance and lighting positions. |
Acrylic sheet or wall panel?
An acrylic sheet provides a decorative facing. A wall panel or plank has its own profile, coverage and fixing requirements. Choose the sheet when a broad finish is the design goal; compare MYST pastel wall planks or Altura Fourth Edition when the design calls for repeated relief and shadow. Do not transfer dimensions or technical claims between them.
Explore finishes
Start with Essenczza and Dexiglas for decorative acrylic selections, and Engrave when considering a textured sheet. The Dexarte catalogue library contains the current reference files. Review samples against the surrounding paint, flooring and furniture; a screen image cannot settle the final colour or sheen.
Sheet size, thickness and substrate
Use the dimension and thickness printed for the exact collection and code. The Essenczza catalogue identifies a 1.5 mm acrylic range; that does not mean every Dexarte sheet is 1.5 mm. A decorative sheet is not a structural wall or a universal direct-to-wall product. Have the installer specify a sound, flat, dry supporting surface and the compatible bonding system.
A practical installation planning sequence
- Measure the wall, returns, openings and sockets.
- Approve the finish, code and physical sample.
- Plan sheet orientation and joint positions before cutting.
- Confirm substrate, adhesive, edges and expansion details from the product instructions.
- Resolve dampness and leaks before installation.
- Have the fabricator protect the finish during cutting and fitting, then hand over the care instructions.
TV brackets, shelves and other loads need suitable structural fixing; do not rely on the decorative facing to carry them.
Bathrooms, splashbacks and heat
Do not assume that a decorative acrylic sheet is approved for shower walls, direct water exposure or the area behind a hob. Moisture tolerance of a facing does not make joints, adhesive or backing waterproof. Select a documented system for the exposure; use a different wall material where the chosen sheet is not approved.
Care and maintenance
Use the care instructions for the selected coating. Remove loose grit gently and use a clean soft cloth; avoid abrasive pads, harsh solvents and unapproved polishing. Read the acrylic cleaning guide and durability guide for selection questions.
